Representative Scott Franklin released the following statement regarding his support for the REINS Act, which passed the House of Representatives tonight:
“Our Founders always intended Congress to be the lawmakers, not the executive branch. Over time, Congress has surrendered its Constitutional responsibility to keep a check on the growing executive. We have relinquished our authority to unelected career bureaucrats at federal agencies who are not accountable to the public. This constitutional imbalance has made government less transparent and increased costs making it harder to achieve the American Dream.
I came to Congress to help turn this ship around and shrink government. Tonight’s passage of the REINS Act is a historic win for government accountability and a tremendous step in the right direction to put the brakes on executive branch overreach and reclaim Congress’ constitutional lawmaking authority.”
