Franklin Votes To Keep Government Open & Ensure Services For Americans

Congressman Scott Franklin (FL-18) issued the following statement regarding his vote in favor of H.R. 1968, a stopgap funding bill to prevent a government shutdown.  The measure passed the House of Representatives 217-213.

“Today, I supported the FY25 continuing resolution (CR) to keep the government open. This clean CR is free of partisan “poison pills,” safeguarding taxpayer dollars from wasteful spending and protecting critical services for Americans.

“This bill saves taxpayers $13 billion dollars while strengthening national security with a $6 billion increase to defense spending and the largest pay raise for junior enlisted troops in over 40 years.  It also fully funds veterans’ healthcare and benefits, supports federal firefighters fighting the wildfire crisis and increases investments in air traffic control to enhance safety and travel efficiency. To ensure essential programs continue without disruption, the CR preserves Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid and provides $7.6 billion for the supplemental nutritional assistance for women, infants, and children or WIC.

“I’m glad House Republicans united to prevent a chaotic government shutdown and turn our focus toward advancing President Trump’s America First priorities and implementing long-overdue spending reforms before it’s too late. I urge the Senate to pass this legislation swiftly.”
