Franklin Votes to Empower Law Enforcement to Seize Fentanyl and Protect Our Communities

WASHINGTON, DC—Congressman Scott Franklin issued the following statement regarding his vote in favor of the HALT Fentanyl Act.  The measure passed the House of Representatives 312-108.

“Today, I voted for a commonsense bill to ensure law enforcement are equipped to take down traffickers and keep our communities safe by permanently classifying fentanyl related substances as Schedule I drugs.

“Biden’s disastrous border policies over the last four years encouraged cartels to traffic unprecedented amounts of fentanyl into our country, destroying families and devastating communities.

“Tragically, few are as affected as Florida, which leads the nation in fentanyl seizures. In just the last year, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd and his department executed one of the largest fentanyl busts in U.S. history and confiscated enough fentanyl to kill every man, woman and child in a large portion of the state. This must end.

“The HALT Fentanyl Act helps give law enforcement on the front lines the tools they need to keep this poison off our streets and prevent further senseless loss. I urge the Senate join the House in swiftly passing this measure.”
