Statement on the Final Passage of the Laken Riley Act
Washington, DC,
January 22, 2025
Congressman Scott Franklin (FL-18) issued the following statement regarding tonight’s final passage of S. 5, the Laken Riley Act. The measure passed the House 263-156 and now heads to the President’s desk. “Tonight’s final passage of the Laken Riley Act underscores Republicans’ commitment to reversing the Biden Administration’s disastrous border policies and putting the safety of the Americans first. This final version, amended by the Senate, is stronger and now covers a much broader swath of criminal illegal aliens. The bill requires the swift detainment and deportation of illegal aliens who assault a law enforcement officer or commit a crime that results in injury or death. We must protect our communities and uphold the rule of law, and this bill is a fantastic start. I’m glad this critical bill passed with strong bipartisan support and now heads to the President’s desk to be signed into law.” ### |
