WASHINGTON, DC– Rep. Scott Franklin (FL-18) today issued the following statement in response to the Supreme Court ruling overturning the doctrine known as Chevron deference:

“Today’s ruling properly reasserts constitutional authority through the founder’s intent for Congress to make laws, the Executive Branch to implement them and the Judicial Branch to interpret laws. For decades, the Chevron doctrine has allowed executive agencies to egregiously exceed their constitutional authority. This has led to a dangerous expansion of regulatory power beyond the limits set by Congress. This practice has frequently resulted in executive overreach, undermining the foundational principle of separation of powers that is critical to our constitutional framework.

“By overturning the Chevron doctrine, the Supreme Court has reaffirmed the judiciary's role in interpreting the law and ensuring the executive branch operates within its constitutionally defined boundaries. This decision underscores the importance of holding executive agencies accountable to the statutory mandates set forth by Congress, thereby protecting individual liberties and preventing unchecked administrative power.

“This ruling will require precise and clear laws written by Congress to ensure they are implemented as intended without undue interference or reinterpretation by executive agencies. It will provide a more balanced and predictable regulatory environment, where the roles and responsibilities of each branch of government are respected and upheld. This action is a transformative shift to reassert proper constitutional order, enhancing the accountability of the executive branch, and reinforcing the rule of law in our democratic society.”
