WASHINGTON—Rep. Scott Franklin this week supported three bills to terminate several federal emergency lockdown measures implemented in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. These bills include: The Pandemic is Over Act, The SHOW UP Act, The Freedom for Health Care Workers Act and a resolution terminating the COVID-19 national emergency declaration.

“Passing these bills simply takes action on President Biden’s own words,” said Rep. Franklin. “He declared the pandemic was over back on September 18th, so it makes sense for us to roll back these emergency declarations and other measures that continue to hinder economic progress. If the President won’t act on his words, House Republicans will.”

The Pandemic is Over Act, named for a quoteby President Biden made in September, ends the Public Health Emergency declaration first issued by the Secretary of Health & Human Services in response to the COVID-19 pandemic in January 2020. Each declaration lasts 90 days and requires the Secretary to renew them to continue. The initial declaration has been renewed 12 times and was recently extended again through April 2023.

The SHOW UP Act requires federal agencies to reinstate pre-COVID telework policies so federal workers can fully serve the American people effectively and efficiently.

The Freedom for Health Care Workers Act nullifies the COVID-19 vaccine requirement for healthcare workers. This action follows the termination of a similar mandate for military servicemembers.

The resolution terminating the COVID-19 national emergency declaration would end the declaration made by the President in response to the pandemic, which has been in place since March 2020.
