WASHINGTON—Rep. Franklin (FL-15) today issued the following statement after supporting a resolution introduced by Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (FL-25) calling for international solidarity with the Cuban people:
“Cuba’s Communist Party has repressed the freedom and basic human rights of Cubans for more than six decades. We are witnessing a movement by the Cuban people who are rejecting the stranglehold they are forced to endure under the socialist regime. I’m proud to stand with my congressional colleagues in support of the Cuban people as they continue their fight for liberty. As Cubans peacefully protest for their God-given rights, the regime is responding with mob violence, shutting down the internet, cutting off electricity, and arbitrary arrests. These are not the actions of a legitimate government, they are the actions of barbaric authoritarians. We must stand in solidarity with our Cuban neighbors against the forces of socialism.”
