WASHINGTON—Representative Scott Franklin (FL-15) issued the following statement after voting against H.R. 5376, the so-called Build Back Better Act:

This morning, I voted against irresponsible government spending and in favor of putting our country back on the path to economic prosperity. President Biden’s $1.75 trillion spending plan will further escalate inflation, add to our national debt, and expand government control over our daily lives. Democrats claim this bill will help address our economic woes, but all they’ve managed to do is ram through the largest taxing and spending bill in United States history.

Democrats are more interested in forcing a liberal agenda of government control over our lives, even if it means driving our economy off a cliff. Between their anti-prosperity policies, massive expansion of entitlements and pro-inflation spending, we have to ask: what is the Democrat goal here? If someone were trying to intentionally destroy Americans’ livelihood, they couldn’t draw up a more effective playbook than the one executed by the Biden Administration over the past 11 months. They are sabotaging our economy and destroying the American Dream to force us into cradle-to-grave dependence on the federal government. With the passage of the Build Back Better (Broke) plan, they are one step closer to that goal. I pray the Senate has the wisdom my House Democrat colleagues did not, and will stop this bill in its tracks.
